British policy makers, in response to the Zionist Organisation lobbying , declared in the Balfour Declaration in 1917 that it would use its best endeavours to see established a national home for the world's Jewish people in Palestine.

The world Zionist Organisation had no army , it could never seize the country on its own. It was an anti-Semite Balfour who enabled Zionism to entrench itself in Palestine. If it hadnt been for the presence of the British army in the early years of the mandate the Palestinians would not have the slightest problem pushing Zionism out. Lenni Brenner Jewish Historian 'Zionism in the age of Dictators' p5, p15

"The British pretended and some of them even believed that the establishment of a national home for the Jews could be carried out without hurting the Arabs. But of course that was impossible. Once the Zionist movement came to Palestine with the intention of creating a Jewish state war was inevitable.Contrary to the widely held belief of Britain's pro-Arabism , British actions considerable favored the Zionist enterprise." Tom Segev Israeli Historian, author of 'One Palestine Complete'.

the Balfour Declaration was a colossal blunder-it has proved to be a catastrophe for the Palestinians and it gave rise to one of the most intense, bitter, and protracted conflicts of modern times.
